Shawn Michaels vs Sting at Wrestlemania: Can It Happen? Should It Happen?

As the pro wrestling world has changed over the last few months, I've watched on the sidelines, ever curious.

I watched people retire, and big names leave. I've read articles speculating on subjects ranging from Undertaker's Wrestlemania opponent to possible heel turn to questioning whether or not CM Punk is a good leader for the Nexus, and even a return of Goldberg, one of the few men that attracted me to WCW when the promotion was still going strong.

There's been a mix of certainty and uncertainty in both TNA and WWE. Stars have left, and new stars have been signed. The wrestling world moved forward as it always had; some moves brilliant, others incredibly stupid.

One of the more brilliant ones was the announcement of HBK as the first inductee in the WWE Hall of Fame this year. Shawn Michaels has always been one of the men I could look at and call one the best of all time.

He is someone who has wrestled everybody; all of those next big things, supermen, surefire hall of famers, greatest in-ring performers of their generation and wheelin' and dealin' son of a guns. They have all stepped into the ring at one point or another with The Icon.

Yes, Shawn has wrestled nearly everyone there is to wrestle and done almost every match there is to be done. It was truly a career he can look back on with no regrets, a masterpiece that any wrestler would love to have. There is only one match Shawn is yet to have, though, and one man he is yet to beat.

Enter Sting, a name that nearly every wrestling fan has a fond memory of. Why is this so amazing? He is one of the only wrestlers in history to achieve such status never having worked for Vincent Kennedy McMahon.

Recently, Vince has been pursuing Sting with a fiery passion to have him join the company's Hall of Fame, even if he refused to work for him. Sting is someone who, much like Shawn, has wrestled everyone there has been to wrestle, from legends and has-beens to never-weres and the futures of the wrestling industry. At some point or another, they all found themselves being stared down by The Icon, except for one.

Sting and Shawn Michaels, two men that have wrestled everyone there ever was and even gone as far as to have earned the same nickname, yet have never crossed paths with each other despite the desires and hopes of every wrestling fan.

Now, though, there is a touch of hope. Sting has left TNA and has given no distinct word on what he is doing exactly, and Shawn made an appearance last night after the announcement he was being inducted into the Hall of Fame this year.

Can it happen? Can these two men be gearing up for a Wrestlemania XXVII showdown?

In my view, the odds are slim, but there is still a chance. It would definitely give Wrestlemania heavy buy rates as this is a match that wrestling fans have wanted for years, and that’s what Vince McMahon is aiming for this year.

Should it happen?

I know Shawn has said that he is done because he intends to keep his word to the fans, but I'm sure if there were any circumstance that the fans would not get mad if he broke this promise, this is it.

Should it happen?

Well, that is a matter of opinion. There is no question that neither Sting or Shawn Michaels are in their prime, and the match would not resemble what it would have about four or five years ago, but given who is competing it would still live up to at least my expectations. It would be something special, and personally speaking, I'd love to see it.

What do you think? Is there any chance that it can happen? Should it even happen, or just exist in every wrestling fan’s dreams?
