Star defensive tackle Marvin Austin has already been ruled out and reports have as many as 16 UNC players total not playing on Saturday night against LSU due to ongoing NCAA violations.

Some thought North Carolina could win the ACC this season largely because of the talent they have returning on defense. That defense could be shredded due to violations ranging from payments for trips to academic fraud.

The ACC has five teams in the preseason top 25, but many still have doubts as to whether the conference deserves such lofty rankings in August.

SEC fans will quickly bring up how Georgia and South Carolina defeated the participants of the ACC Championship Game.

I specifically asked the LSU blog The Saturday Night Slant how much respect Tiger fans were giving the ACC's Tar Heels and was honestly was surprised. A UNC win would have been seen not as a bad loss to a basketball school by many LSU fans.

The original line for the matchup with LSU had the Tar Heels as a slight favorite over the Tigers. After two bad losses in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff, it looked like the ACC might finally break through against the SEC and gain some respect against their big brother.

Now with the news coming out of the Triangle area, the line has moved seven points in favor of LSU and the ACC has probably missed out on golden chance to gain the respect of the SEC and the college football world.
