Class of 2018 point guard recruit Darius Garland was one of four players suspended Thursday from the Brentwood Academy (Tennessee) varsity boys basketball because of an undisclosed locker room incident.

According to Dave Boucher, Elaina Sauber and Michael Murphy of the Tennessean, Garland will not play against Battle Ground Academy on Saturday.

Per 247Sports, Garland is a 5-star prospect who rates as the No. 13 overall recruit, No. 3 point guard and No. 1 player from the state of Tennessee in his class.

Brentwood Academy spokeswoman Susan Shafer told Boucher, Sauber and Murphy that the suspensions are not related to hazing.

Head coach Hubie Smith didn't offer any details about the incident and said the players will be back next week.

Per Boucher, Sauber and Murphy, the incident caused Brentwood Academy to cancel a game last week and resulted in Garland and the other players being academically suspended as well.

Regarding the situation, Shafer said:

"Last week, a number of students failed to meet the high expectations we have for them at Brentwood Academy. As a result, the students involved have been disciplined. ... When the school became aware of an incident [last] Thursday evening, we immediately addressed the issue with students involved and their parents. While Brentwood Academy has been transparent about its disciplinary procedures with the students and parents involved, we are committed to protecting the privacy of our students and families."

Garland signed his letter of intent to play at Vanderbilt. He also received scholarship offers from top programs such as Duke, Kentucky, UCLA and Indiana, per 247Sports.
