Before I start what should be one of my last b/r diatribes, I have to send a special thank you to Spenser Harrison.

Why, you ask? Well, young Mr. Harrison sent me the link of the cbs NFL correspondent contest winners, which was released July 29.

Had Mr. Harrison not sent me the list, I wouldn't have even known about it (because you KNOW no member of the B/R brass was going to tell me!)

But because Mr. Harrison was kind enough to send it to me, I was able to peruse the list and separate the worthy winners from the out-of-work, "professional," well, "scabs," for lack of a better term.

So thanks Spenser. Fight the power! (And this is the link:

I also want to credit the b/r writers who were appointed to the "Rapid Reports" assignment (little brother's name for the end result of the "Summertime Shakedown"). No matter what I write here, I have a tremendous amount of respect for you. Way to go, and best of luck.

*(Deep breath).*

But now, it's time to get in cbs' lying @$$ (at least) one more time. Hope you've enjoyed the ride, folks. It certainly has been fun.

I noticed the Jaguar winner, Jim Nasella, because that's the spot I went for. One of my friends and colleagues (we actually do the kind of writing that companies PAY for, Mr. "preeminent featured columnist") informed me of the selection a few weeks back.

He also told me that Nasella had worked with cbs columnist Pete Prisco while they were both at the Florida Times-Union, the biggest daily paper in Jacksonville.

I took my source at his word (why would he lie?). But before taking on this venture, I had to satisfy my curiosity. By examining some old clips and bios (isn't the Internet wonderful? Now I can watch Big Brother as much as he watches me...), I verified that, indeed, the two did work together in the 1990s, before Prisco joined cbs in 2000.

I looked at Mr. Nasella's profile, and he had written a grand total of two articles. Neither had received more than 200 reads and none of them had been commented on.

Like Jack White (musical archangel who is driving force behind three incredible bands) would say, I think I smell a rat.

Don't be surprised if his profile has been deleted. Why would he keep the profile, anyway?

He got what he wanted, and for a-fifth of the effort that some of my Jacksonville cronies put in.

And why would b/r want to keep the record of his "brief tenure" on this site? Think about it.

As I scanned the list, I saw another surprising similar name: Tom Krasovic. For years, he covered the Chargers and Padres the San Diego Union-Tribune.

How do I know this, you ask?

Well, I grew up in San Diego, born and raised for the first 18 years of my life.

I'm a sports junkie.

My parents still get a subscription to the U-T. Shoot, I could run down the whole roster of writers and columnists, from Nick Canepa (great columnist) to Jay Posner (most famous for getting cussed out by Ryan Leaf).

Now before some self-righteous featured columnists (LW mostly) get their panties in a wad and say that I'm just pissed I didn't get the position, let me say this for the 100th FREAKING TIME:

I'm pissed no one told us this was going to happen. I feel like I've been lied to.

Then I started to think back, and I realized that I have PROOF I've been lied to.

I knew my "packrat" sensibilities would serve a purpose.

A word of advice, friends. Never throw away ANY e-mails you receive from this site or cbs.

Part 2: Coming soon! (You know I was gonna milk this one....)
